29129 This show was originally scheduled for the Blind Pig speakeasy but that closed shop a few weeks prior. The show was then moved to the Imperial Theater. It's just a few blocks off James Brown Blvd in downtown Augusta, 2 blocks from the Savannah River. For the most part, a very respectful and responsive crowd. Some dancin', most seated and entranced. A fun night of dTb in Augusta at the historic Imperial Theater. Although the acoustics leave a great deal to be desired the band performed above and beyond. One of the better nights for me. Too bad the most obnoxious drunks always migrate to just under the microphone. You can hear this guy yelling to his buddy who was doing his gawd awful best to ignore him. You couldn't understand this guy when it was quiet and he was looking right at you, much less when he was yelling to his buddy right under the mic. Despite that annoyance and the muddy middle acoustics, you get a very decent show. Derek really shines on some of the 2nd set outro parts without the slide. It was worth the drive in the hard rain for 2 hours each way. Check it out! The theater opened 2/18/1918 http://www.imperialtheatre.com/history.htm. This was the first time Ive been inside since moving here 7 years ago. I love old venues. Ill agree that the sound that night was muddy, and I think a lower volume would have helped with that. This was my first time seeing the DTB although Ive seen Derek 6-7 times with the Allmans. The show was a nice bluesy, soulful, jazzy at times, steady rythm. And Derek was on fire as always. Im always impressed by his slidework, but his finger work without the slide is equally impressive. I enjoyed being able to sit and watch the show, but I wish Augusta could better support live music. Honestly, I think the show was very poorly promoted by the local radio sation.
